Calling in the army

-

SOLDIERS from the military unit for emergencies (UME), the army and the special operations command (MOE) have taken over disinfection works in busy areas such as entrances to supermarkets, health centres, chemists’, hospitals, transport facilities and old people’s homes.

They are supporting the local police, Guardia Civil, National Police and regional police in the patrolling streets and roads to guarantee that residents adhere to the lockdown order.

In Alicante province, the soldiers have been disinfecting Alicante-Elche airport and many towns around the area.

UME and MOE soldiers arrived in Orihuela at the beginning of the week and have been disinfecting busy areas in the city and on the coast, as well as supporting police patrols.

An UME patrol also visited Calpe this week to help disinfect streets, squares and sensitive areas at risk of spreading infection such as the day centre for the elderly.

Supporting the municipal cleaning services, they have also sprayed areas of heavy footfall such as the exteriors of supermarkets, pharmacies, the health centre, the fish market, petrol stations, the Guardia Civil barracks, public facilities and rubbish bins.
