Ice rink turned into a morgue
MADRID'S ‘Palacio del Hielo’ is being used to preserve the bodies of people who have passed away due to the coronavirus.
The ice rink offered its services to the capital city’s governing team earlier this week. A government report then revealed that their installations had the appropriate conditions for the temporary preservation of the corpses. Thus, the government accepted and gave the order to the Emergency Military Unit (UME) to start transporting the bodies there.
Those who are taken to this ‘interim morgue’ remain there for a short period of time, until being sent to be cremated or buried.
A polymeric layer that is almost three centimetres thick has been placed over the ice so that the corpses are not in direct contact with the frozen substance.
