Man arrested over fake Covid-19 cure
A BRITISH man touting a fake coronavirus treatment kit to international clients over the internet is behind bars after being arrested at a post office near his West Sussex home.
The 59-year-old made kits allegedly containing harmful chemicals which customers were instructed to use as a Covid-19 busting mouthwash.
Officers from City of London Police’s Intellectual Property Crime Unit arrested ‘snake oil’ salesman Frank Ludlow a week ago after a tipoff from United States authorities.
Ludlow appeared before a special sitting of Brighton Magistrates Court last Saturday morning and was remanded in custody until April 20, a police spokesman said.
And police have urged the public to only seek advice about symptoms and recommended action from registered healthcare professionals.
The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency in the UK stressed people should only ever buy medicines from an authorised seller; warning online shoppers to be wary of illegitimate websites and suspicious URLs - online addresses and links.
