New blues and twos

- By Alex Watkins awatkins@cbnews.es

A NEW fleet of local police vehicles was unveiled by Rojales town hall yesterday (Thursday) in Ciudad Quesada urbanisation.

All the force’s vehicles have been replaced with the latest models, fully equipped with the most modern technology to help officers go about their daily duties, explained mayor Antonio Pérez.

There are four cars, a van for taking statements at crime scenes and accidents, and two mopeds.

The two mopeds are fully electric while the other vehicles are all hybrids, explained the mayor.

They have been acquired under a leasing agreement, which Sr Pérez assured offers many benefits because they will be required to cover many kilometres with various different drivers.

The terms mean that the town hall basically only has to pay for fuel, as all maintenance, repairs and insurance are included, as well as replacements whenever any are out of action.

Sr Pérez said the council was very happy with the new vehicles ‘so that the police can offer the best possible service to residents’.

He assured they are making efforts to improve this every day.

In this respect, Sr Pérez explained that they are taking steps to bring the force back up to its full complement of 40 fully qualified officers, for which four of the current temps are undertaking the lengthy selection process.
