THE SAGA of Orihuela Costa’s beach bar service is close to an end, according to councillor for beaches Luisa Boné.

Sra Boné revealed yesterday (Thursday) that the bars and beach services such as umbrellas and sunbeds – are planned to be up and running before the end of July.

According to the councillor, the court for contract appeals, has this week rejected all appeals against the procedure and council officers are expected to discuss the financial offers of the six bidders and announce the winning company next week.

“The contract procedure has been proved to be fully legal and we can now go-ahead with the final stage and contract out the service,” she said.

The winning company is to be allowed to use the existing facilities, which are now owned by the council.

The beach bars have been closed since April, when the company running them, Chiringuitos del Sol, warned the council that their contract had expired in November 2017.

That contract is being investigated by the courts due to alleged irregularities and the council decided not to renew it and ordered the company to close down the bars.

The new tender was launched in May and the service was supposed to be up and running by the end of June, but the procedure was halted by appeals made to the courts.
