By Dave Jones AN INITIATIVE to ‘improve the quality of the sand’ on Santa Pola’s beaches will take place over the coming months.

Councillor for beaches Mercedes Landa said they will aerate and then spread the sand so it slopes down to the sea. This means that flood water will run down to the Mediterranean and stop sand from being washed away, she noted.

It will also prevent the build up of water around the footbaths.

“There will be specific actions for each beach because each has its own characteristics,” she said.

The work will start at Playa de Tamarit, where the wooden walkways are being withdrawn, she added.

“Aerating the beaches prevents the build up of bacteria caused by damp,” explained the councillor.
