VOLUNTEERS taking care of feral cat colonies at Dehesa de Campoamor said yesterday (Thursday) they were ‘threatened’ on November 2 and 6 by residents, who do not agree with having strays near their homes.

Spokeswoman Ana Hernández said the neighbours insulted the volunteers and threw away the dry food they put out.

“We had no choice but to ask the local police for help,” she said. “They told the residents what we do and why – and that the project is supported by the council.

“Several cats were poisoned a few weeks ago and now we are being threatened.”

She highlighted that the cats keep pests under control and volunteers participate in the capture-neuter-release campaigns.
