Costa Blanca News’ weekly feature supporting local writers, in conjunction with Writers' Ink

WELCOME to our Writers’ Ink group’s weekly words. We provide news, views, tips and examples of writing by authors and poets, local and beyond.

Founded in 2010 by WordPlay, our purpose is to encourage writers to write, and to get them published and read. Keep writing! Greetings readers, I trust everyone had a good Halloween last week.…

These days, it seems, whenever you pick up a newspaper or turn on the TV news, you are met with too much negativity, need and violence.

Someone put the following on Facebook recently, which – if adhered to – would certainly change things around for the better: “May humanity be our race; may love be our religion.” If only! Meanwhile, we must hope for the best and do what we can with the pieces…

For those creative souls who are lucky enough to be able to follow their hearts and hobbies – the two are often intertwined Christmas is usually a challenging time.

This is expecially true for the cooks in our midst, bless ’em, who make all those yummy treats to tease the taste buds which Christmas wouldn’t be the same without, like gingerbread men for the tree or petit fours and chocolate truffles, and so on.

The festive season is a great time for making all manner of things for gifts: knitted or every day of the year, staffed by volunteer English speakers ready to listen to anyone facing emotional difficulties in total confidence. Or come to our drop-in centre at our shop in Punta Marina shopping centre, Punta Prima, south of Torrevieja on the N332. samaritansin

Vega Baja Astronomy Group

Meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 14.30-16.30 at Casa Tom in San Luis, Torrevieja. No telescope needed, just a keen interest in the cosmos. Everyone welcome, even for a single visit. No fees and no committee. See vegabajaastronomy or call Pat Phillips: 96 671 62 11. stitched garments, drawn or painted art-work, modest pottery or whatever they’re good at crafting (people who borrow to buy expensive gifts are very misguided, don’t you think?).

I shan’t divulge what I’m buying as presents this year, but my knitting is lamentable… and there are always my books. It’s nice too – for those who appreciate poetry – to pen a little poem inside a card or on a gift-tag.

To all those wordsmiths among us still frantically scribbling away, trying to get that all-important book published before Christmas, I wish you the very best of luck (and sales). It can be a hard, while enjoyable (some of the time….) slog!

If you’re interested in any aspect of writing, our next meeting will be on November 12 at Waldemar’s Restaurant, Calle Escorpio, La Florida (Orihuela Costa) from 10.30-12.30. Why not come along and introduce yourself ?

The meeting will be the last this year, workwise, as the due date in December will be taken up with quaffing large quantities of Christmas fare at our annual shindig. Cheers! Yours sincerely, Joy Lennick Email: joylen Website: http:/joylennick.word Most of our writers’ books are available from Amazon and Kindle.
