A FULL house enjoyed a glass of wine, a huge raffle and music from the Torrevieja Pipes and Drum band for this last meeting of San Luis-La Siesta Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) in 2018.

Mayor José Manuel Dolón had to join the group late, having been called to an unexpected meeting with the president of Valencia region, Ximo Puig. However, he did manage to give the meeting an update on the longstanding issue of La Siesta park. It seems there is still no opening in sight as the mayor revealed a court investigation is underway and until the case is resolved nothing could happen.

There was an update on the planned new contracts for waste services and the bus service with members invited to attend a council meeting to see the contracting process.

Residents were told about how to register to vote in the local elections in May next year and were advised to ensure that they have residency status and change their UK driving licences for Spanish ones before Brexit.

Those attending the meeting were advised that NHW is trying to build up an earthquake team, which would help out in the event of a serious tremor, and members were invited to sign up.

The meeting was also told of three incidents in San Luis lakeside in which residents’ homes were entered, and in one case a person was assaulted. Residents were advised to be vigilant, vary their routines and ring the 112 emergency number if they have any concerns.

The Guardia Civil home team will be attending the NHW meeting in January to advise people on home security.

Residents were also advised that they can take large items of rubbish (furniture, etc.) they want to dispose of to the ecopark situated off the CV-905
