Wooden walk­ways have been in­stalled in Santa Pola nat­u­ral park, us­ing wood pro­vided by the town hall de­part­ment for beaches. They will make one of the salt mu­seum’s gar­dens and the Múr­tu­las bird ob­ser­va­tory more ac­ces­si­ble to peo­ple with mo­bil­ity prob­lems, ex­plained coun­cil­lor for tourism and beaches, Mercedes Landa (pic­tured).

The botan­i­cal gar­dens fea­ture species of veg­e­ta­tion that are typ­i­cal of Mediter­ranean and salt marsh ecosys­tems. Park work­ers are also re­plac­ing the safety rail­ings and their bases along the jetty on Playa de la Gola, which were dam­aged by salt wa­ter, time and van­dal­ism. The beaches de­part­ment do­nated 30 me­tres of walk­ways that were dam­aged and have been re­cut, sanded down and cleaned. Sra Landa said the town hall is al­ways happy to help the re­gional gov­ern­ment to im­prove the nat­u­ral park for res­i­dents and tourists to en­joy.
