Postal ser­vice re­sumed for some Calpe res­i­dents

Town hall an­nounces spe­cial de­liv­ery

By Jo Pugh CALPE coun­cil has an­nounced that the multi-domi­cil­iary con­cen­trated mail­boxes in the Cu­car­res, Marisol Park, Los Al­men­dros and Maryvilla ur­ban­i­sa­tions are ready for use, and res­i­dents in those ar­eas can now re­quest them.

The new mail­boxes will en­sure the dis­tri­bu­tion of postal mail af­ter Correos an­nounced the in­ter­rup­tion of home doorto-door de­liv­ery ser­vice in ur­ban­i­sa­tions which did not have con­cen­trated mail­boxes or were not con­ve­niently or­dered un­der re­vised postal laws.

The own­ers of houses in these de­vel­op­ments may re­quest the rental of a mail­box in the ci­ti­zen as­sis­tance of­fice (OAC) on the ground floor of the town hall. For this, they must sign a re­spon­si­bil­ity dec­la­ra­tion, in ad­di­tion to pre­sent­ing doc­u­men­ta­tion prov­ing own­er­ship of the prop­erty or the re­ceipt for their prop­erty tax.

Al­though in prin­ci­ple the in­stal­la­tion of mail­boxes is an is­sue that is the re­spon­si­bil­ity of res­i­dents, the coun­cil con­sid­ered it ap­pro­pri­ate to carry out the scheme. They were aware of the dif­fi­cul­ties that this en­tailed for res­i­dents of the ur­ban­i­sa­tions, many of whom are for­eign­ers and are ab­sent for long pe­ri­ods of the year. This was in ad­di­tion to the large vol­ume of mail­boxes that were re­quired to be in­stalled.

The fee is €120 which will be the rental cost for 15 years.
