El Cid Bowling Club

Costa Levante News - - LOCAL SPORT -

Visitors go home with nine points at El Cid Despite a lot of heavy overnight rain, the El Cid Green held up and was very playable as El Cid welcomed Javea Green in the Winter League.

It was the away team that got off to a good start and after six ends Javea were ahead on all rinks.

However, El Cid fought back and despite the points going 93 in Javea favour there were three very close games.

What to say about Rink 2 is best left on the Green! Rink 3 saw Pat Metcalfe and her ladies fight a tight game against Jack Wardrop but a 3 shots on the last end was not enough and lost 1213.

Rink 4 had Yvonne Bridens strong all ladies team take the lead after 6 ends and kept it to finish winners by 1811 against Alan Philips team (you had to feel for Alan as the only man on that rink)

Rink 5 kept everyone on edge being the last rink to finish. Paul Leeders team leading by one shot after 17 ends and holding shot, which Brian Manser moved to leave Javea with one shot. Paul was having none of this and with his last bowl returned the favour drawing shot inside Brian’s. As we held our breath Brian sent a great bowl to edge out Paul and take the end to square the game at 13 – 13

Rink 6 saw El Cid struggling 187 down after 13 ends but a 12 shots fightback over the last 5 ends was not enough for Clive Scotts team who lost 2219.

The Berleen team skipped by John Olliffe won 8 ends to gain 15 shots but lost out to David Ings team who had a good middle section scoring 11 shots over 5 ends to take a 22 15 win.

Winter League Captain Derek Randall took some comfort from the close games against a very experienced and strong Javea Team. El Cid now sit in 6th place and are home to Emerald Isle next week.
