Seven millionth passenger for Valencia
CARLOS Fiol became the seven millionth passenger to land in Valencia airport on Wednesday, setting a new record and already surpassing last year’s 6.7 million total. The Madrid native and Valencia resident was on his way back from Frankfurt when he was informed mid-flight that he was the 2018 milestone passenger.
As he got off the plane, he was greeted and congratulated by airport manager Joaquín Rodríguez and other airport and airline company Lufthansa representatives and workers. Even the fallera mayor of the city’s Montortal Torrefiel falla group was invited to the event.
Carlos was presented with a ceramic keepsake as well as two tickets to fly to his European destination of choice. When asked where he would like to go, Carlos said he ‘still hasn’t decided’, but that he’s sure once he gets home and talks to his family there will be no shortage of ideas. The fact that over seven million passengers have already landed at Valencia airport is proof of the site’s increasing popularity, especially when taking into account that on this exact same date last year, the airport was celebrating the arrival of passenger number six million. For further context, the total amount of passengers in 2014 was 4.6 million. So congratulations to Carlos for the honour and the gifts, and to the airport itself, which this March celebrated its 85th birthday and will end the year greatly surpassing the previous historical high.
