Endodontics requires a refined technique and system, in all aspects: removal and total disinfection of the carious process; detection of input number and behaviour; determination of working length and optimal and necessary biomechanical preparation and its effective subsequent hermetic sealing. In the constant search for higher quality endodontic treatment, the operating microscope has proven to be the dentist’s best ally in endodontic practice, transforming it from being a complementary or auxiliary instrument to becoming the co-protagonist of the success of a root canal treatment. This is due to providing the endodontist better working conditions, a visual magnification of up to 40X, an increase in the illumination of the operative field, as well as allowing the computerisation of clinical cases. Through the review of different articles, the objective of this work is to highlight the benefits of the use of magnification techniques in endodontic practice, in addition to comparing the different techniques available today, and to identify the advantages of the operating microscope versus conventional magnifying glasses.
