The Garden on Línea Street
AFTER A GRAND REOPENING IN MARCH, THIS EMBLEMATIC HAVANA RESTAURANT IS STAGING A COMEBACK AS THE GASTRONOMIC HAVEN IT’S ALWAYS BEEN
Located right in the heart of the theater strip of the cosmopolitan Línea Street, one of Havana's most emblematic restaurants reopened in the month of March: El Jardín (The Garden), a genuine gastronomic safe haven housed in a fancy neocolonial mansion from the 1940s, decked out with beautiful French-style doors and windows paned with fake church-like glass.
Rekindled by Restaurantes de La Habana Co., its main lounge is spruced up with modern trendsetting designs. The restaurant's specialty is international cuisine, yet it has made room to harbor some of the most delicious Cuban food. Since early in the morning (8:00 am), patrons can choose from an array of typical Cuban breakfasts, as well as continental and American breakfasts, always served alfresco in an open terrace. Later on, from 11:00 am to 6:30 pm, assorted pre-menu dishes are served with a drink.
The main courses at the main lounge -open from noon to midnight- are Jardín mixed salad (exotic vegetables seasoned with a secret recipe created by the house) and Rublos de Pollo (chicken) side-dished by sautéed vegetables. These offers speak volumes of the balance the house tries to strike between healthy food and good cooking. What's more, El Jardín boasts a couple of bars that dish out amazing cocktails and drinks, with the Gin Tonic Jardín topping the list. And for those who come looking for a much thriftier note between 9:00 am and noon, the cafeteria has what it takes with a selection of pastries, sandwiches and nosh food.
A few days from now, El Jardin will open a bar on the mezzanine specialized in international cocktails and tapas, something that will surely become a must-visit place during the bohemian Havana nightlife.
