DESOFT Unveils New Trade Dress at FITCuba 2018

SOFTWARE AS A SERVICE IS JUST ANOTHER STEP ON THE WAY TO COMPUTERIZE THE CUBAN SOCIETY

-

Software as a service is the latest choice presented by DESOFT, Empresa de Aplicaciones Informáticas, at the 38th edition of the International Tourism Fair and following an award for technological innovation nabbed at Informática 2018 as a result of the transformation of its entrepreneurial business model as Cuba's leading IT company.

In an exclusive interview with the Excelencias magazine, DESOFT general manager Luis Guillermo Fernandez said that offering software as a service is in sync with today's trends worldwide called by the advance of technological development and the evolution of the Internet, coupled with companies' transition from hardware devices to virtual platforms, and the existence of highend smartphones that can have access to them by means of cloud computing technology.

“This business model allows us to have applications installed in a datacenter that users can have access to on the Internet, no matter where they might be. This transformation comes in a piecemeal and structural way. We just can't wait to have full connectivity in order to see this through because there are legal, marketing and IT security actions that must be done first, and that's something we've been working on over the past couple of years,”says Luis Guillermo.“We've got the necessary wiring infrastructure to reach out to every nook and cranny of the country and act complementarily, that is, closing cycles within the companies' value chains and for the sake of the end user.”

The fact of the matter is that the computerization of the society goes far beyond a simple email service or a Wi-Fi connection. It's actually linked to the processes citizens interact with through technology to meet needs related to the government, the administration, the services. And that sways from requesting a public registry to paying taxes, buying items or making registrations. That's why this is so complex a process that calls on a majority of institutions and sectors across the country to get engaged.

Out of the four DESOFT projects that grabbed awards in Informática 2018's Cuba stand, “The Citizen Portal: An E-Government Experience” comes out as the greatest breakthrough of all as it boosts up exchanges between citizens and their government.

As far as tourism is concerned –and in coordination with GET, Grupo de Electrónica para el Turismo attached to the Ministry of Tourism- DESOFT is deploying IT applications such as ENERGUX, which targets the control of energy sources, and GM, designed to manage the maintenance of hotel facilities related to such services as check-in, gastronomy, bookings, travel desks…
