IT and Health: A Successful Combination
Digital medical records are no longer wishful thinking for Cuba's healthcare system. Dreaming of a project of such scope and defining the first step to take for its implementation is high on the list of SOFTEL's lines of work. With 32 years of experience under its belt and a broad portfolio of IT solutions to choose from, the company is putting its smart money on the integration of new technologies linked to medical services, a combination that's meant to work every step of the way. It's important to highlight that this project wouldn't be possible without the joint effort among the Ministry of Public Health, SOFTEL and every healthcare-related institution.
“Galen Clinics is our leading product, a suite of several elements that computerize patient care and assistance in every medical institution. This system comes with a registry of admissions, discharges, diagnoses, checkups, consultation managements, stats in a variety of formats and even a follow-up module for hospitalized patients,” said Ariadna Curbelo García, general manager of SOFTEL, in an exclusive interview with the Excelencias magazine.
“Information on each and every process related to patient care and assistance is a digital medical record. The view behind this is to come up with a centralized medical record that could be accessed from anywhere in the country, take a look at up-to-the-minute updates related to the patients, no matter the hospital or medical center he went to. The project is out of the drawing board and even a pilot test is underway as we speak, in order to have it certified by the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP).”
These solutions are applied at the international clinics run by Servicios Médicos Cubanos all across the island nation, a move that paves the way for better attention to foreign patients that request our services.
Together with those necessary applications for the computerization of Cuba's Public Health System, SOFTEL is also clinching services associated to infrastructure and connectivity. The management of IT projects is one of the experiences in this realm, coupled with other initiatives such as the use of smart and artificial intelligence techniques called expert systems (ExperLab) and artificial neuronal networks (Neurolab).
“Technology is changing at white-heat's pace, and so are the trends related to the ways of developing new IT solutions. At SOFTEL, we bear in mind those transformations in a bid to come up with state-of-the-art and functional applications for our customers,” Mrs. Curbelo Garcia explained.
