IPK: Where Science Goes Smoothly
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND CUTTINGEDGE TECHNOLOGY MAKE UP A TWOSOME THAT BACKS UP THE CLINICAL ATTENTION AND HIGHLYQUALIFIED RESEARCH STUDIES THE “PEDRO KOURI” TROPICAL MEDICINE INSTITUTE HAS TO OFFER
In the outskirts of Havana, the Pedro Kouri Tropical Medicine Institute is armed with a team of highly-qualified professionals that provide multidisciplinary and comprehensive medical attention to each and every patient. The IPK (the acronym in Spanish) complements specialized clinical attention through laboratories outfitted with state-of-the-art technology that make it a benchmark facility nationwide. What's more, the IPK collaborates with the World Health Organization.
INTERNATIONAL CLINIC
Eighty years of experience support IPK's scientific pathway, a place where the analytical ambience of its labs and lecture rooms is very much in sync with the direct attention patients get. By doubling down as both a hospital and a reference research center for diagnosis, the facility is able to deliver top-quality attention backed up by research volumes churned out by the medical and laboratory staffs.
The international clinic provides outpatient and hospitalization services in modern wards that can accommodate both patients and their companions. The staff works under the principles of confidentiality and privacy. The natural surroundings and the comfort are barely two elements that contribute to recovering the patients' health and improving their quality of life.
NATIONAL REFERENCE LABORATORIES
Excelencias paid a visit to the IPK's Research, Diagnosis and Referral Center, a facility next to the International Clinic. The World health Organization has certified several of these labs for studies on vaccines against poliomyelitis, measles, smallpox and influenza. Other international institutions, such as the European Union and the Pan American Health Organization, have developed highimpact joint studies there.
The research center provides the possibility of assessing new vaccines, labeling epidemic breakouts, as well as establishing and evaluating diagnoses. The Vector Lab is fitted out with equipment to patent insecticides and pesticides. It has also worked with major international manufacturers that have signed contracts with Cuba.
SHARING EXCELLENCE
The IPK offers training courses to institutions willing to prepare their professionals in the prevention, assistance and management of infectious breakouts. Courses can be planned either in Cuba or in the country the requesting institution is based on. Likewise, the center teaches half a dozen master degree courses that provide students with international credits, as well as Ph. D courses on biomedical sciences.
