The Faces of Miami
IN A BRIEF SPAN OF TIME, THIS U.S. CITY HAS BECOME ONE OF THE MOST SOUGHT-AFTER TRAVEL DESTINATIONS IN THE WORLD, NOT ONLY FOR THE BEAUTY OF ITS BEACHES, BUT ALSO FOR ITS CULTURAL, FINANCIAL, AND GASTRONOMIC ATTRACTIONS
Miami Beach, South Beach, Crandon Park Beach, Rickenbacker Causeway Beach, Bill Baggs Beach… these are some of the most visited beaches in Miami. Their natural beauty seduces everyone who arrives in this city. However, the nine largest metropolitan area of the country is no longer a tourist resort limited to this attraction as it has also grown in the cultural, financial, commercial field as well as the entertainment industry.
Amid the 2018 International Pow Wow Trade Show (IPW) held in Denver, Joe Docado —Gran Miami sales manager for
Latin America— talked to Excelencias. He pointed out that the center of the MiamiDade county welcomed last year 15.8 million visitors, of whom 70% came from Latin America. Revenues increased up to 26.5 million USD, half of the profits generated by Latin American visitors.
Regarded in 2018 as the cleanest city in the U.S., Miami is also the cruise capital of the world. Millions of visitors especially from other cities of the country, Latin America, and Europa arrive in there every year.
Labeled as the “magical city,” Miami has recently become one of the most sought-after travel destinations in the world, Docado said that the city is now offering the opportunity to explore gastronomy, street art, music, and history. Hence, Miami is much more than beaches and shopping.
“There's no doubt that a traveler from Latin America spends twice and a half the money a U.S. native tourist would, as it is usual for them to spend money and time going shopping in Miami. Indeed, they lodge at luxury hotels, plan more tours, and book in the fanciest restaurants.
The city is growing and we are always looking for seductive attractions such as the Trainline, which travels from Miami to West Palm Beach with a stop in Ft. Lauderdale. Another goal we have set is that these visitors could find in this safe city some cultural attractions; for instance, Wynwood, the epicenter of Miami's art, where there are more than 70 art galleries and tourists can enjoy vast collections of street art. Besides, the Miami's Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art as well as the Science Museum are both very interesting choices.
“There is a growing interest in visiting the Brickell financial area and the renowned Down Town where, in addition to malls, there are cultural centers of interest like the Adrienne Arsht Center, venue of the Miami City Ballet and the Florida Grand Opera.”
A perfect triad for travelers who like to spend their holidays in Miami is complemented by some dining options. This city is the Iberian-American Gastronomic
Capital in 2019 and pleasing the most discerning palate is paramount, especially with recipes from a cuisine made of ingredients from Florida and the Caribbean, especially Cuba. The official designation occurred in February ((www.excelenciasgourmet.com/es/aibg/miami-esoficialmente-la-capital-iberoamericanade-la-cultura-gastronomica-2019) when Don Rafael Anson, president of the Royal Gastronomy Academy of Spain, paid a visit to the city. That means that from now on, Miami will draw the attention of the world as it hosts a meeting of coffee experts from Hispanic Americas in search of a cocktail that would stand for the city, and when it organizes the Gastronomy Global Vision and Art Culinary, an event that will bring art and cooking closer together.
Docado highlighted that direct flights from European cities such as Milan, Dublin, Tel Aviv, as well as other Latin American cities to Miami show that it is a global interest to boost this tourist resort in the U.S.
