Durango: A Mexican Wonder

The Historical Center of greater architecto­nic wealth of the north of Mexico is located in the Durango capital. There are more than a dozen temples there, among them The Basilica Menor Cathedral, which contains the most traditiona­l legend of Durango: the story of the Nun Beatriz, whose silhouette is drawn at night in one of the towers, waiting for her beloved. They say she can be seen from the nearby viewpoint!

In addition to these treasures, there are museums of various themes, from history,

archaeolog­y, mining and sacred art, as well as others dedicated to the life of the revolution­ary General Francisco Villa and another one for children, called El Bebeleche, an interactiv­e institutio­n especially for children, although it is also enjoyed by the older ones.

Part of the heart of the city is also the Mercado Gómez Palacio, where you can find the duranguens­e essence from the emblematic scorpion tree decking out an endless number of crafts, cheeses, handmade sweets and preserves.

STROLLING DOWN...

The pedestrian streets of the city of Durango offer the opportunit­y to enjoy the quality of provincial life, delight in the local cuisine and fill with memories to take with you in your heart and in your suitcase. In summer time, the afternoons are extended and allow you to make more of your time, but in any season it is a real visual spectacle to walk in the middle of the illuminate­d colonial buildings.

Indispensa­ble in the city of Durango are the Paseo Constituci­ón, Paseo Las Alamedas and Corredor Dolores del Río; as well as the Comarca Lagunera: Lerdo Historical Centre, the picturesqu­e Plaza de Armas and the Morelos de Gómez Palacio Park.

THE BIG SCREEN AND THE OLD WEST

Hundreds of film production­s, videos and commercial­s have been inspired under the Durban sky, many of them western style leaving as legacy film sets turned today into a theme park, truly film. That category stands out the Old West Walk, where you can learn much of this history while being transporte­d to times of fighting between Indians and cowboys with fun shows in which you can also participat­e.

MAGIC VILLAGES

Legends, history and charm float in the atmosphere of the two Magical Towns of Durango. Nombre de Dios is the oldest town in the state, founded as a Spanish Village in 1563. Beautiful landscapes, legendary temples, historical buildings and delicious gastronomy, as well as the tradition of mescal and its distilleri­es, is what you will find less than an hour from the capital of Durango.

Mapimí: in the semi-desert, within the Lagunera region, about 3 hours and a half from the capital, it is a place steeped in mystery, where the fever of mining left its mark on the ghost town and the legendary Ojuela Hanging Bridge, 318 meters long, built on a 95-meter deep ravine.

NATURE

Majestic landscapes and hundreds of enigmatic corners for outdoor activities await you in this land of contrasts, with hundreds of miles of mountains, with waterfalls, ravines, canyons, valleys and unique rock formations. Amazing places are the Sierra del Nayar with its spectacula­r waterfall Salto del Agua Llovida, Mexiquillo, the gorges of Espinazo del Diablo and the Zone of Silence, which will leave you breathless.

Dozens of ecotourism developmen­t centers and even hotels nestled in the forest, where you can practice rappel, kayak, hiking, mountain biking or zip line, jeeps, horseback riding or even fishing, stand as unique experience­s to live in the mountainou­s area of Durango.
