The Palma Convention Centre continues to succeed.
The Palma Convention Centre, managed by Meliá Hotels International, recently presented its Activity Report for 2018—its first full year of operation after opening in April 2017. During the year, the Convention Centre and Meliá Palma Bay hotel hosted 226 events with 76,678 attendees, generating 15.3 million euros in revenue. 'These highly positive results exceeded our initial objectives and expectations, and should cement the position of the Convention
Centre in the domestic and European MICE market', said Ramón Vidal, General Manager of both facilities.
Vidal highlighted the importance of Spanish and international events as the foundation of the business, and the significant economic impact they've had on the destination by boosting demand for travel services and associated facilities. This is evidenced by the more than 50,000 nights that business travellers reserved in the city's hotels in 2018, while they were attending events at the Convention Centre.
The most relevant examples were corporate events held by Jaguar and Panasonic—attended by 7,000 people—as well as a number of important Spanish medical congresses. These events are even more significant given the fact that they were all held in the shoulder (low) season. This allowed the Convention Centre to act as a key driver behind the achievement of some of Palma's major strategic objectives: the reduction of travel seasonality and greater diversification.
The 80 events held by local organisations also demonstrated the Mallorcan business and cultural community's significant interest in the facilities, and provided support for their mission to become catalysts of innovation, culture and social cohesion.
