Meliá participates in the ICEX Spanish Gastronomy Training Program.

-

The Meliá group continues its mission to act as an ambassador for Spanish gastronomy and to remain a global benchmark by offering its customers the best experience of Mediterranean cuisine. On that note, the second edition of the Spanish Gastronomy Training Program has just taken place, organised by ICEX, the public body that promotes the internationalisation of Spanish companies.

This programme, aimed at catering professionals in the hotel industry, has welcomed 23 participants from around the world. Five of those candidates belong to our company and are a clear example of the talent that Meliá brings to the sector. In this edition of the programme, we’ve been represented by our colleagues Achille Travaglini from Meliá White House (United Kingdom); Jindrich Stipek, from Paradisus Playa del Carmen (Mexico); Joana Portella, from Meliá Desert Palm Dubai (United Arab Emirates); Erick García, from Meliá Hanoi (Vietnam) and Anung Prihastomo, from Gran Meliá Jakarta (Indonesia). Being the hotel company that has brought the most talent to this edition is a matter of great pride. It gives us confidence to know tha our internal commitment is also felt and recognised externally. This pride certainly helps us to improve our customers’ experiences.

Thanks to this initiative from ICEX, the participants have been able to complete exclusive training at the Basque Culinary Center in

San Sebastián, a temple for the study of Spanish cuisine. It was here that they learned about our most valued products like olive oil, wine and seafood, as well as acquiring other knowledge that will help to turn our hotel into a gastronomic destination. This training was completed with a ‘journey of discovery ’ of different cities for participants to witness, first-hand, various culina y traditions and local produce from different places. Burgos, Segovia, Madrid, Seville and Almería were some of the places that were visited. It was certainly a unique experience for our participants and a great asset that will reinforce the talent that exists in our company and help us to continue to be the largest Spanish hotel chain in the world.
