THE REVIVAL OF MILAN
The new ‘Made in Italy’ golden age
INNSiDE Milano Torre Galfa hotel is yet another major focal point in Milan’s unstoppable wave of developments, ongoing projects and forward momentum. Institutions, businesses, corporations, figures from the world of design and architecture: everything is revolving around Milan once again,
returning to the ‘Made in Italy’ golden age. We have seen the emergence of Stefano Boeri’s Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest) in Porta Nuova; Petra Blaisse’s Biblioteca degli Alberi (Library of Trees); the new Prada and Feltrinelli foundations; and the reactivation of the Triennale, among other things. Now — the latest in this long line of developments — Rem Koolhaas and his firm OMA will be renovating the Scalo Farini railways over the coming
years, pushing the revival of this city’s masterplan even further.
a blend of new architectural work and this classic design, combining traditional Milanese architecture and the transparency and consistency Bega dreamt of,’ Kanah recently explained.
As a specialist in hotel architecture and development, Alvaro Sans has collaborated on this hotel project. He has also previously worked on the ME Meliá II Duca, originally designed by another great Milanese master, Aldo Rossi. Like Kanah, Sans mentions taking Melchiorre Bega’s existing building and classic vision into account:
‘Remodelling this building while maintaining and restoring the facade to how it once was has been quite the challenge. Especially since we are adapting it to new requirements. The project was developed by the architect Maurice Kanah and ASAH (Sans’ architectural agency), adapting the INNSiDE brand to cutting-edge Milanese style. It is a major project that will be hugely valuable to INNSiDE.’
The hotel has an explosive cultural programme in store, featuring regular art exhibitions that will highlight the creativity of Italian artists who convey the soul of Milan through their work.
This same soul is also present in the hotel’s culinary offerings. Set to be the highest in the city, ‘Restaurante Roof Top Terrace’ will be located on the 29th and 30th floors. And what’s more, F&B Concept will serve simple dishes based on traditional Italian cooking – with an innovative twist. In line with the Milanese way, the restaurant offers light lunches with salads, homemade pasta and the best Italian cold meats and cheeses.
THE PROJECT WAS DEVELOPED BY THE ARCHITECT MAURICE KANAH AND ASAH, ADAPTING THE INNSIDE BY MELIÁ BRAND TO CUTTING-EDGE MILANESE STYLE. IT IS A MAJOR PROJECT THAT WILL BE HUGELY VALUABLE TO INNSIDE.
