LAGO ENRIQUILLO
Los 350 km2 de extensión del lago Enriquillo acogen a distintas especies de reptiles como el cocodrilo americano, la iguana rinoceronte (una especie endémica) o la iguana de Ricord. Lake Enriquillo’s 350km2 is home to various reptile species, such as the American crocodile, the rhinoceros iguana (an endemic species) and Ricord’s ground iguana.
PEDERNALES
Además de albergar unos arrecifes de coral muy bien conservados, esta zona junto a la frontera entre República Dominicana y Haití, es el hogar de la mayor población de tortugas Carey del Caribe. As well as being home to well-conserved coral reefs, Pedernales hosts the largest hawksbill turtle population in the Caribbean.
ESTERO HONDO
La mayor reserva de manatíes antillanos de todo el país está en el Santuario de Mamíferos Marinos de Estero Hondo, uno de los pocos lugares donde observarlos en su hábitat natural
The country’s largest Antillean manatee reserve is at the Estero Hondo Marine Mammal Sanctuary, one of the few places you can observe them in their natural habitat.
SIERRA BAHORUCO
Desde el lago Enriquillo hasta la Sierra de Bahoruco se prolonga una de las mejores zonas para el avistamiento de aves. La hermosa cigua palmera es el ave nacional del país. With more than 300 species, 32 of which are endemic, the area from Lake Enriquillo to the Sierra de Bahoruco is one of the country’s best for birdwatching.
BAHÍA DE SAMANÁ
Cada año, más de 2.000 ballenas jorobadas viajan hasta la cálida Bahía de Samaná. En este bonito enclave permanecen desde mediados de enero hasta finales de marzo .
Every year, more than two thousand humpback whales travel to the warm waters of Samaná Bay, where they remain from mid-January to late March.
PARQUE NACIONAL DE LOS HAITISES
Este parque es también refugio del endémico halcón de Ridgway, que está en peligro de extinción.
The park is also a refuge for the endemic Ridgway’s hawk, which is critically endangered.

En el Parque Nacional de los Haitises habita en estado natural una población de delfines. Desde Samaná salen barcos todo el año que llevan a los lugares donde suelen alimentarse.
Los Haitises National Park is home to a population of dolphins living in their natural habitat. All year round, boats depart from Samaná to the places where they usually feed.
