When you see his imposing, inhabitable work, you can tell that the 88-year-old Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira wanted to be a sculptor. Winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1992, he was also awarded the National Architecture Award of Spain last October, making him the first non-Spanish architect to receive the award in its almost 90 years of history. Siza has displayed his genius in Porto and the surrounding area, where he has designed amazing constructions and complexes such as the Piscina das Marés (below), the São Bento metro station, the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art (right), the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto and the Boa Nova Tea House in Leça de Palmeira.
