HOTEL EREMITO

-

The creative mastermind behind it is Marcello Murzilli, who created the clothing brand El Charro in order to travel all around the world on a sailboat. He came back to Italy and opened Eremito in 2013, which was built stone by stone as all 14th century monasteries. As soon as he laid his eyes on the valley, Murzilli fell in love: “I felt I was in a very special place: the colors, the lightning, the river’s twinkling water, the natural reserve forests… and on top of the mountain, on a natural viewpoint, laid the ruins.” Murzilli’s idea was for the hosts to sleep like monks: they sleep in individual cells, eat at a communal table and they don’t do anything during the day, there’s only silence. No TV, Wi-Fi or phones. That’s what’s turned Eremito in one of the first “digital detox” hotels in Italy. It’s the perfect place to reconnect with oneself and find one’s priorities in life again, which we sometimes lose in our daily lives.

Celluze instead of rooms. Eremito is a hotel made for going by yourself. It doesn’t have rooms, but cells—called celluze. These cells were used by monks in ancient times, who found in them a place for meditation and prayer. They have a bed, a shower, a toilet and a stone desk under the window to reflect while you enjoy the views of the valley. The temperature is always the same, so there’s no need for air conditioning. There’s heating under the floor for the coldest months of the year. This allows Eremito to resemble old hermitages as much as possible.

Lunch in silence. Lunch time does not leave anyone indifferent at the Hotelito del Alma. All the food is high-quality, and lunch is carried out in silence. The style that characterizes the hotel is also present in their gastronomic offer, with a simple and basic menu. It consists of a healthy and moderated diet, with Mediterranean recipes. Its flavors and smells remember the classics of Umbria and the small villages that surrounded the monasteries. The experience is a whole universe of new feelings.

Eremito’s cuisine is vegetarian and it has a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits, always seasonal ones. Besides, bread, pasta, marmalades, and cakes are purely home-made. During summer months, meals are served outside, surrounded by nature and forests. In winter, in order to take shelter from the cold, they’re served in a refectory with a huge stone chimney that heats the whole room.

Relaxation in order to evade. In a place like Eremito, which is brimming with peace, an area exclusively dedicated to comfort could not be absent. It’s here where one can find an equilibrium between body and mind while Gregorian chants are heard in the background. The relaxing room, made solely of stone, is the ideal place to escape from the stressful routine while you enjoy a steam bath or a whirlpool bath. The finishing touch are the natural teas distributed around the room, from which “Melemito” stands out, a sweet and hot drink.

The essence of Eremito is the reengagement between spirituality and ecology. This is possible thanks to the unique experiences that the hotel offers, which allows one to find oneself and avoid all kinds of distractions while establishing a relationship with the surrounding nature. This is an undoubtedly unique experience for those who wish to spend a few days far from the digital world.
