CAROLINE DE MAIGRET
Caroline de Maigret is just as precious inside as she is outside. Before being approached by a booker during one of her walks through Paris, this French native with striking features and a lanky body relished her vocation for philosophy and existentialist literature at the Sorbonne. The sudden switch to the catwalks of New York in the mid-1990s was a necessity—her desire for independence was overwhelming. As a bridge between two generations (that of supermodels and that of heroin chic led by Kate Moss), Maigret was smart enough to take advantage of all that fashion could give her (for example, posing for photographers such as Steven Meisel, Mert & Marcus or Inez & Vinoodh and being the face of brands such as Prada, Louis Vuitton, or Lancôme) without being consumed by the overbearing demands of the industry. After a brilliant career spanning ten years, she decided that that field was not wide enough to race in and founded Bonus Track Records, a label dedicated to the promotion of independent musicians. Today, with this label and the production of videos for clients such as Chanel, Vogue USA, The New York Times, or London’s Tate Modern under her belt, her passion for literature and music remains intact, but there is also room for philanthropy and motherhood. After being a girl in her 20s, a woman in her 30s and a bundle of nerves at 40, the radiant Caroline who speaks with us for this interview from the comfort of a living room crammed with books in her Paris apartment says she feels better than ever. And if there’s one thing she knows for sure, it’s that love calls to love.
