GIRAYA: THE TELEVISION THRILLER NOW ON DVD

The new year’s biggest news regarding a significant small screen creation is out!

Giraya – t he awardwinning 16-episode t ele drama based on a gripping novel written by Punyakanthy Wijenayake, is now available in the DVD format, thanks to the efforts of Torana Video Movies Chief Kumar Kothalawela.

Giraya which featured a talented star cast including Trelecia Gunawardena, Va s a n t h i C h a t h u r a n i , Peter de Almeida, Grace Ariyawimal, Chandani Seneviratne, Cyril Dharmawardana, Miuri Samarasinghe, Rathna Sumanapala, Sunil Hettiarachchi, Deepika Sandanayake, Sujani Menaka and others, clinched key awards at prestigious awards festival. The tele drama was produced by Bandula Weerakkody, directed by Dr. Lester James Peries, edited by Ravindra Guruge while Rohana Weerasinghe directed the music.

All t hose who had watched Giraya on TV several years ago, will certainly remember Luci Hami – the domineering Ayah i n Loku Hamu’s Walawwa. With her strange sinister powers she manages to r ule the walawwa and harrass other ser vants. She even makes Loku Hamu i l l - t reat her own daughter Manel. But this unquestioned dominance is suddenly confounded by the arrival of Kamini – wife of Loku Hamu’s son Lal.

A special event was held recently to mark the release of the DVD at the residence of Dr. Lester James Peries in Colombo.
