Dankotuwa Porcelain celebrates 28th anniversary

-

Celebrating its 28th anniversary of incorporation, Dankotuwa Porcelain PLC offered a 28% discount on January 6 and 7. Incorporated on January 6, 1984 as a subsidiary private company of the then Ceylon Ceramics Corporation, with the General Treasury and the Employees Trust Fund as the other shareholders, was later privatized in December 1990 with the admission of a consortium of Japanese companies. In September 2010 a fresh infusion of capital brought in Environmental Resources Investments PLC (ERI) as the controlling shareholder and now operates under the wing of ERI.

Converted to a publicc in 1994 and with an Initial Public Offering later that year, Dankotuwa was listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange in January 1995, and currently has approximately 5,300 shareholders. With a workforce of over 1,000, the company was the main employer in the area of Dankotuwa in the North Western Province, and has contrib- uted immensely to the economic development of the area. Dankotuwa residents are very grateful to the company for having made the town of Dankotuwa synonymous with high quality porcelain and for erasing the earlier negative image associated with a local brew.

Within the ceramics sector, Dankotuwa Porcelain has won the most awards holding the record of winning the ‘Exporter of the Year’ award on three occasions. Today, the brand name of Dankotuwa is well known as a high quality product with its high whiteness, high scratch and chip resistance, and translucency. The superior quality characteristics of the product have earned it a reputation all over the world. Dankotuwa is gaining popularity amongst the hoteliers in Sri Lanka and India, and is well known for its fast customization and its innovative shapes designed by foreign designers.

Dankotuwa Porcelain is releasing more stocks into the local market to replace the dormant export markets of Europe and the US which are suffering from the current economic down turn. Its success in the domestic sector is due to its wide variety of surface designs and its success in the hotel sector is its range of shapes and specialty hotel products and timely delivery. Most companies are now using Dankotuwa sets for corporate gifts and as gifts to employees. The recent new service of having the name of a person or a family printed on high end sets has proved very popular.
