A ward-winning dramatist Nalaka Swarnathilaka who made the popular ‘DANGAMALLA’ stage play in 2003 and later the tele version in 2006, is now planning to remake it as a new stage production. The drama was based on Enid Blyton’s popular story ‘The naughtiest girl in the school’ translated into Sinhala by Ganga Niroshani Suduwelikanda. Nelisha Algama will play the lead role in the new production together with other students from leading schools. The main adult roles will be played by Kusum Renu, Maureen Charuni, Ramani Siriwardana, Nilmini Sigera and Sanjeewa Upendra.

The premiere of the new production will be staged on January 28 at the LIONEL WENDT THEATRE. A three day children’s drama festival will also be held to coincide with the premiere of ‘DANGA MALLA’. Priyankara Rathnayake ’ s ‘ ANTIGANEE’ will be staged on January 27, Dangamalla on January 28 and Nalaka’s ‘MAMA WENAMA MALAK, on January 29. Elizabeth is a naughty little girl who is always playing pranks on her governesses and so none of them stay for long. Her parents are always travelling to different countries while she stays back with a governess. But because none of the governesses are willing to stay with the naughty girl, her parents decide to send her away to boarding school. Elizabeth makes a big hue and cry and refuses to go away to school but no one listens to her and she has to go. When she arrives at the school she tries her best to be at her worst behaviour with the teachers as well as the students. Her main aim is to be sent back home as soon as possible. Because of her behaviour she earns the title of ‘the naughtiest girl in school’.
