KANGANA RANAUT FROM MODELLING TO ACTING

-

By M.ismeth

Kangana Ranaut is in a dilemma. “I went to see “Gangster” in the theatre and there are no tickets available” she wails.”i don't know whether to be happy or sad.”

Her laughter is as irrepressible as her turbulent curls.and what do you know the (19 year old in 2006) doesn't believe in stemming either. She travels light and that becomes evident when she begins to recount her fairytale-like entry into the archlight.

It could have been Paris, but she picked Mumbai. And now instead of walking the haute ramp in the world's fashion capital, Kangana takes her baby steps to tinsel town. She says, “I know it sounds completely filmi, but I was discovered by chance. Yes, I have come to Mumbai to try my luck in films but Director Anurag Basu discovered me in a coffee shop of all places.”

“He sent me a note, I went over and introduced myself. But it wasn't so easy after all. Although Anurag loved my looks, he wasn't sure I would carry off such a role. He took a month to make up his mind. I almost tore my hair out in tension.but finally I was his (Simran, her name in the film Gangster).” Even as the winds sweep her luscious locks across her face, she rewinds a bit, “I always thought I would do theatre and maybe ramp modelling. I had signed up the Elite modelling agency, and had even hired a co-ordinator to learn French.”

Wouldn't being a super model in Paris have been a great life-plan. I wonder. Wisely she states, "Well, what you want in life and what you get from it are two different things.” Incidentally, the same adage applies to her character in her debut film, ‘Gangster,' too. She talks 19 to the dozen. Anurag told me “Kangana, you are Simran, I don't have to work on your looks at all, for you to be her. Your hair, your eyes, the way you carry yourself, it's uncanny how the character has come to life,” recalls Kangana.

“It's a very special compliment, as these days, girls look like assemblyline products. I'm glad I didn't have to get a makeover to get into character. I'm glad I didn't have to become someone I didn't recognise.”

Kangana on her co-star Emraan Hashmi says, “He is so chilled out. I think we share a great chemistry, I was quite shy in the beginning and would retreat into my shell after each shot. But Emraan is cool, he made me comfortable gradually. We've become very good friends now.” “I learnt a few lessons from Emraan, like how to just do your own thing and never interfere in anyone else's work.”
