Minister would observe SLC Chairman's efficiency, responsibilities in solving financial crisis within this year – Media Secretary
Sports Minister’s Media Secretary Harsha Abeykoon has sent us the following observations about our article titled “Minister slams Dharmadasa, praises Ranatunga”, published in yesterday’s edition of “Daily Mirror”.
“I shall be grateful that if you could take necessary action to correct the word “slams” since the Minister did not slam the Sri Lanka Cricket Chairman.
However, as the Minister of Sports, it is his duty and responsibility to direct the institutional heads under the Ministry to the correct path and I believe that guiding and directing the officials under him is not slamming.
Therefore, the Minister would observe the Sri Lanka Cricket Chairman's efficiency and responsibilities with regard to finding solutions to the financial crisis of the Sri Lanka Cricket and other duties within a very short period, before end of this year.
Writer’s Note: Oxford Dictionary tells us that the meaning of “slam” is “criticize severely”. So we have to agree that “guiding and directing” is obviously not “slamming”.
However, it is debatable whether the Minister’s utterances at the press conference about Upali Dharmadasa were exactly “guiding and directing” or “criticism”. It seems a matter of opinion.
It is interesting to note that this letter refers to “the financial crisis of Sri Lanka Cricket” after the Minister said at the press conference just a day ago that there was no crisis but a temporary problem at SLC.
The Minister also said at the press conference that this temporary problem could be solved before March this year but this letter interestingly suggests a period of one year to solve that.
