IDLO seminar on employment contract law today
The Alumni Association of the International Development Law Organisation (IDLO) Sri Lanka has organised a seminar on ‘New Dimensions of the Law Relating to Contract of Employment’ to be held on January 11, at the Galadari Hotel, Colombo from 1:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The contract of employment signifies the employment relationship between the employer and employee in Sri Lanka which has gained protection under the law. This also encompasses the effect of international conventions on this relationship as well as concepts of termination of employment and reliefs granted for termination of employment.
This interactive seminar will discuss the new dimensions of the law relating to the contact of employment as well as the current trends in termination of employment, reliefs granted on such termination and international standards applicable to such a relationship.
It will be an interactive seminar with presentations made by eminent resource personnel representing the judiciary, public and private sectors and academia, namely, R.K.S. Sureshchandra, Judge of the Supreme Court, R.P. Wimalasena, Senior Legal Advisor, Ministry of Labour and Labour Relations, A. Sarveswaran, Attorney-at-law, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, Dittha De Alwis, Assistant Director General, Employers Federation of Ceylon followed by a panel discussion chaired by R.K.S. Sureshchandra, Judge of the Supreme Court which will also include Sobhitha Rajakaruna, Senior State Counsel and Shyamali Ranaraja, Attorney-at-law, External Consultant, International Labour Organisation as eminent panelists.
Subject areas covered at the seminar will be contract of employment: General nature of the employer and employee relationship, termination of employment: Current trends, reliefs granted for termination of employment: Current trends and effect of international conventions on labour laws in Sri Lanka.
This seminar is designed for a target audience of lawyers, human resource managers and others interested in the subject.
