More new Tourist Hotels in Pasikuda

Deputy Minister of E c o n o mi c D eve l o p me n t Lakshman Yap a Abeywarden­e said that 14 new hotels are being constr ucted in the Pasikuda Touri s t Zone by t he p r i - vate sector businessme­n i nve s t i n g R s. 6 , 5 3 0 Million for the constr uction of these hotels.

T h e Pa s i k u d a To u r i s t Zone consisting 150 acres of land has become a ve r y a t t r a c t ive l o c a t i o n fo r t o u r i s t s, e s p e c i a l ly fo r t h e E u ro p e a n t o u ri s t s, a n d i s b e i n g d eve l - oped under the observatio­n of t h e To u r i s t Deve l o p ment Aut h o r i t y. T here wil l b e 9 3 0 ro o ms in the 14 hotels being constructe­d.

Until 1983 Pasikuda was a t o ur i s t haven a nd t here were 3 hotel s with 1 7 1 r o o ms a t t h a t t i me. Due to the war the tourist industry in the area had a natural death and with the end of the war more a n d more t o u r i s t a t t e n - tion has been focused on this zone and it has b e c o me a v e r y v i b r a n t tourist area.

T h e De p u t y Mi n i s t e r s a i d t h a t a f t e r c o mp l e - t i o n o f t he c ur r e nt c o ns t r u c t i o n wo rk , a l a r g e n u mb e r o f yo u t h f r o m the Easter n Province wi l l g e t e mpl o y ment i n Pasikuda.

He said that with upsurge in tourist ar rivals in this zone the people a ro und t he a re a wil l g e t e c o n o mi c a l l y s t r e n g t h - ened.

Yapa disclosed that the g ove r n m e n t is spendi n g R s . 6 5 0 Mi l l i o n f o r t h e d e ve l o p ment o f t h e Pasikuda Tourist Zone.

He said that the E c o n o mi c D eve l o p me n t Ministry has already provided Rs. 275 Million from this amount.
