First Lady lays stone for Kandy Cancer Institute
First Lady Shirathi Rajapaksa laid the foundation stone for a moder n ten story cancer Institute in the Kandy General and Teaching Hospital Complex at an estimated cost of Rs. 650 million, at a simple ceremony.
After Mrs. Rajapaksa laid the Foundation stone, the Chair man of the Kandy Hospital Committee Mohan Samarakoon, called upon all to support the construction work of the Cancer Institute. He said that the President has promised Rs. 80 million for the Rs.650 million undertaking, and Indra Silva of Indra Traders had promised a donation of one hundred and fifty million rupees and a token amount has already been handed over.
He also said that the Nurses and the Medical personnel had extended their support for this gig antic undertaking.

Gover nor of the Central Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, the Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake, Director of the Hospital Dr. W.a.t.dissnayake, Senior DIG H.n.b.ambanwela, DIG W.weerasekera, SP G.b.peramunna were present.
Others included the Deputy Minister of Health Lalith Dissanayake, the Provincial Minister of Health Sunil Amaratunge, Member of Parliament Dilum Amunugama.
