First Lady lays stone for Kandy Cancer Institute

First Lady Shirathi Rajapaksa laid the foundation stone for a moder n ten story cancer Institute in the Kandy General and Teaching Hospital Complex at an estimated cost of Rs. 650 million, at a simple ceremony.

After Mrs. Rajapaksa laid the Foundation stone, the Chair man of the Kandy Hospital Committee Mohan Samarakoon, called upon all to support the constructi­on work of the Cancer Institute. He said that the President has promised Rs. 80 million for the Rs.650 million undertakin­g, and Indra Silva of Indra Traders had promised a donation of one hundred and fifty million rupees and a token amount has already been handed over.

Others included the Deputy Minister of Health Lalith Dissanayak­e, the Provincial Minister of Health Sunil Amaratunge, Member of Parliament Dilum Amunugama.
