Woman gives birth to 13 lb baby without painkillers or surgery
If giving birth to a 13 pound baby isn’t enough to earn a title of Wonder Woman after labour, how about doing it au naturale?
An Iowa woman delivered her s e c o nd s o n t o weigh o v e r 11 pounds Thursday after opting to forgo a cesarean section as well as pain killers.
At precisely 13 pounds and 12 o unces Asher c a me i nt o t hi s world greeting parents Kendall and Joshua Stewardson of St Charl e s , a s wel l a s hi s o l de r brother Judah who weighed 12 pounds at his own birth.
Judah’s birth, which was Mrs Stewardson’s first child, would have easily masked the delivery of her second child’s she thought.
And appearing smaller on the ultra sound as well as needing just six-hours of labour, Asher’s size was a surprise.
‘ When h e c a me o u t we a l l t ho ught he was s mal l e r a nd then we put him on the scale,’ Mrs Stewardson told WHO-TV, ‘ we were v e r y s urpri s e d, b ut he’s three inches longer.’ And heavier. ‘So, everyone like double takes when they see him, but for us it’s pretty standard and it wasn`t much worse than probably most people’s’ Mrs Stewardson said.
Ac c o r d i n g t o t h e Na t i o n a l Council of Health Statistics, one out of 1,000 infants are born weighing over 11 pounds.
The a v e r a ge i nf a nt b o r n i s between six and eight pounds according to The Nemours Ce nt r e f o r Chi l d r e n’ s Heal t h Media which says those born smaller or larger may require extra medical attention to assure there are no problems.
‘ J us t t o ha v e t wo t ha t ha d absolutely no issues, we’re definitely very blessed that way,’ Mr Stewardson told WHO-TV.
Asher’s birth was the largest o n r e c o r d f o r Mercy Medical Hospital but is short by roughly a p o und f o r t he s t a t e r e c o r d which goes to a Johnson County baby born in 1980 at 14 pounds, 13 ounces.
According to Guinness World Records, the largest baby born on record was 23 pounds, 12 ounces to a Canadian Giantess named Anna Bates in 1879 but who died 11 hours later.
Ms Bates stood herself at 7 feet, 5.5 inches or 2.27 meters.
