SALGADO AT THE TOP STRETCHES HIS LEAD

-

Thurstan skipper Sajeewa Salgado stretched his lead and maintain the top position despite many changes that took place at the end of the fourth week of voting in the Bata-the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2012.

Salgado extended his lead to 1666 having received 1313 votes while his closest rival Charith Ruchiranga of Royal Panadura way back having received 353 votes.

With the inter-school cricket in full swing the most popular schoolboy cricketer contest has shown vivid interest by the competitors supporters. The latest counting of votes has seen three cricketers joining the fray, but Kavindu Ashan maintains the third slot.

The three new cricketers to join the fray are Zahira’s Lakshan Ediri- singhe, Angelo Jayasinghe of Maris Stella and another Royal Panadura cricketer Madhawa Fernando.

In fourth place is Dishan Dissanayake of St Joseph’s with new entrant Lakshan Edirisinghe in fifth place. St Benedict’s skipper Jason who was fourth has gone two down to number six followed by the other two new entrants Jayasinghe and Fer- nando.

The Emerging Schools category saw Sasindu Perera of St John’s Panadura making his first appearance by replacing last weeks leader Shenal Dilanka of Piliyandala Central. The Inter national Schools category too saw a big change with Lakshan Kodagoda of Gateway International taking over the lead from Nishan Perera of Lyceum Nugegoda who has been pushed to the third spot while Shehan Hettiarachchi of Roy- al Institute has taken over the second.
