LET’S ARRANGE

-

“Why is it that men almost never arrange rooms?”asked Melita from her husband, Tony.

“I don’t know. Maybe it is because women invariably take over and do it. In fact, there are times when I wish that I could arrange my room the way I like. Then I will know exactly where my things are,”replied Tony.

“I think it’s because there are so many things that are considered “Women’s Work” and ar ranging is one of them,”observed Melita.

“Well, then, why don’t we break through this stereotype? Let me start arranging my room,”suggested Tony.

“Then find yourself a duster and broom and get down to work. I shall go outside and lie in the hammock with my favourite Agatha Christie detective novel. We can order Chinese food for lunch, can’t we?”said Melita.

“I don’t like hot butter cuttlefish. Let’s have hot garlic prawns, sweet’n sour pork and mixed fried rice. Yummy. I will work like a bull to arrange my room and look forward to a special lunch with chocolate ice cream for dessert,”said Tony.

“Hush, I am on my way to the hammock and I am already thinking of detective Hercule Poirot and his assistant Hastings,”said Melita.

“Before you go, just come into my room a nd g ive me s o me val uabl e a dvi c e o n re-arranging it. Please, darling, tell me where to start,”pleaded Tony.

“Well, you can star t by breaking the cobwebs. Then dust the tops of the desks and chairs. Then put out the furniture and sweep. After that, look at your room and decide where you want to put things. Try shifting big things like the bed so you can make room. Once the heavy furniture is in place, you can arrange a vase of flowers perhaps,”suggested Melita.
