Report of the committee which carried out investigat­ions on the incidents which took place at the UNP Headquarte­rs ‘Sirikotha’ on the day of electing new office bearers of the party is to be handed over to the Party General Secretary, Tissa Attanayake this week, pary officials said.

Party sources said it would be ready within two days. It is expected to be eventually handed over to the Party Leader Ranil Wickremesi­nghe by the General Secretary, Attanayake.

Nearly 20 persons ranging from parliament­arians, provincial council members and ordinary members have testified before the committee according to sources.

Some of the members who had challenged the election of office bearers including Maithri Gunaratne had testified before the committee

This committee was chaired by the UNP Western Provincial Council Member, Srinath Perera while it comprised party members Rajeev Seneviratn­e and Upali Perera. It was functionin­g under the supervisio­n of Mr. Attanayake.

The attack on ‘Sirikotha’ after the results were declared was said to have caused damage worth Rs. 1.5 million to the vehicles. It was reported earlier that the damage to the official vehicle was estimated at Rs 500,000 while the damages to the ve- hicle belonging to General Secretary is said to be Rs 1 million

Several computers and office equipment at the party headquarte­rs were damaged during the attack.

Commotion began when unruly crowds attacked Sirikotha with stones and clubs after the results of the election of new office bearers were declared.
