'We will not be provoked by such elements'

-

Relations between Sri Lanka and India are extremely good and we will take every effort to maintain a good relationship. These isolated incidents should not provoke reactions since it is not carried out by people at large or the government. Like extremists in Sri Lanka, there are also extremists in India. We will not be provoked by such elements. India has been a traditional friend for over 200 years. Our relationship with India is important in the context of global development and therefore must be maintained at the highest level. We will have to work through the differences with discussion. Isolated incidents of this nature will not provoke us.

India is becoming a world super power and soon Asia as a continent will lead the world. The economies of China and India are booming and all the countries in Asia have an average growth of 5 percent. You will not find that in any country outside the region. Asia is going to lead world economy that is why we have to have the best of relations with Asia's super powers. The world order is shifting dramatically from the uni polarity to multi polarity and a single country will no longer dominate the world hereafter. Unfortunately we have problems in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Outside the Asian region we can see that the Latin American countries are coming together after 200 years. They have formed the largest economic block. Russia too is coming together with the ex-soviet states and soon will be forming another economic block; Africa has entered the process of democratization and not forgetting the so called Arab spring. All of this goes to show that we must maintain good relations with neighbours since as a small country we can't afford to strain our relations in the light of these situations in Tamil Nadu or other places.
