The 14th Annual Donald Steel Golf Championship organized by the Victoria Golf and Country Resor t will be worked off at the picturesque Victoria golf course at Rajawella off Kandy on Saturday February 11th with the first tee off at 7.30 a.m.

Victoria Golf Course was opened for golfers in 1999 on a sprawling 558 acre coconut plantation and it was designed by the world renowned golf architect and one time President of the United Kingdom’s Professional Golfer’s Union Donald Steel and assisted by Mar tin Eber t. But the spade work in the construction of the course was done by former planter Tony Witham who is presently the President of the Sri Lanka Golf Union.

Thus the first golf championship organized in this newly constructed course was named after its designer Donald Steel. This 18 hole course has attained international recognition and it is ranked among the 100 most beautiful golf courses in the world and has also won the award as the Best Golf Course in the Sub continent five times since 2002 when this was first made by the Asian Golf monthly.

Englishman Ian Tait is the defending champion of the prestigious Donald Steel trophy, Besides the main championship there will be also the Eber t’s Pot for the Best Net score and for the Ladies there will be the Pam Fernando Trophy (Best Gross Score) and the Victoria Bowl (Best Net score). Apar t from this there will be also side events such as the Nearest to the Pin and the Longest Drive for both Ladies and Men golfers.
