They had come from Digana to stand surety to secure the release of a suspect on police bail.

However the police suspected their unruly behaviour in the police station, much to the annoyance of the officers and questioned the two men to find that they were under the influence of liquor.

The two men were to be produced in court.

Two soldiers of the Pelawatta Army Camp were taken into custody for their alleged involvement in robberies and burglaries in several areas.

They were riding a motorcycle when the police arrested them on suspicion. They were allegedly in possession of a 9mm pistol with ammunition at the time of arrest.

Police said the two men were responsible for several robberies in the Migahatenna, Kiniyawala and Pelawatta areas.
