when they saw his action plan. The opposition sought an enjoining order to prevent the mayor from convening a special meeting to present his development plan.
He stressed that development projects would not be hampered despite his losing the majority in the finance committee.
He said according to the Municipal Ordinance development projects are only discussed at the finance committee, and its approval is not needed to implement them. He reiterated that the CMC would cooperate with the central government to beautify the city.
Meanwhile CMC opposition spokesperson Riza Zarook said they had obtained an enjoining order as they were suspicious of the mayor’s intentions. He added that the mayor cannot convene a council meeting simply to make a statement, although he has the power to do so according to the Municipal Ordinance.
Meanwhile Democratic People’s Front (DPF) councilor S. Kuganthan said they would continue to back the ruling UNP. He said it is sad to see the rest of the opposition trying to sabotage the administration of the council.
