Mayor angered by Ravi’s commentsoncmc
Mayor of Colombo, A. J. M. Muzammil, tore into what he regarded as meddling in Municipal Council affairs by a member of the party on whose ticket he had won the Mayor ship.
Mr. Muzammil was critical of what UNP senior MP Ravi Karunanayake had allegedly said saying he was not prepared to follow anyone’s advice other than that of the leader of the party Ranil Wickremesinghe, on how to run the council.
The Mayor made this point in response to a question raised by a journalist on a statement made by Mr. Karunanayake that steps would be taken to ensure a corruption free administration. “I am the Mayor and no one can tell me how to run the Municipal Council,” he said.
However sources close to Mr. Karunanayake said that the MP was only referring to the earlier administration of the Municipal Council when he spoke of corruption. Sources said Mr. Karunanayake had said that all activities pertaining to the Municipal Council would be taken by the UNP with the blessings of the party leader.
