The Colombo High Court yesterday postponed for February 15 considering bail for two Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) officers who are in remand custody allegedly for killing a 30-yearold youth while in PNB custody.

The bail applications were taken up for hearing before High Court Judge Padman Surasena. The bail applications were filed by Attorney- At- Law Yasasmee Hettige on behalf of the petitioners Anoma Kanthi Jayasinghe of 144, Sripura Morontuduwa and Abeydeera Gunaratna Patabandige Nirosh Suranga who stated that their husbands were police officers who served in the PNB.

The victim Mohamed Sakkaf Mohamed Fahim of Bodhirajah Mawatha Maligawatte, who was a suspect in a heroin case, had arrived at PNB Hq. to sign the case record on a court order. He became ill while he was in the PNB office and the officers had given him water to drink and then tried to give him first aid before he lost consciousness. Since the victim did not regain consciousness he was admitted to the National Hospital and was pronounced dead.
