The body of a brutally murdered 17 year old schoolgirl was recovered from a rubber estate at Opatha in Kahawatta and the body of her mother from their house on Thursday (02).

Police said the body of the girl was recovered in the morning and that of the mother late in the evening, on informatio­n from the public. The bodies were identified by relatives at the Ratnapura General hospital. A senior police official said the girl might have been killed elsewhere and the body dumped in the rubber estate

about three days prior. The victims Kavindya Chaturangi Sellahewa (17) and her mother P. Nayana Nilmini (51) were living at Vihara Mawatha in Kahawatta. Kavin- dya was an advanced level student of the Ratnapura Ferguson Girls’ School. Inquiries revealed they were
