Why is the Kolongoda fair still inoperative?
New building was opened 3 years ago
The complex costing Rs 3.8 million had been funded by the Central Provincial Council
The maintenance of the building complex of the proposed weekly fair in Kolongoda town has been neglected for more than three years. The project costing Rs 3.8 million had been funded by the Central Provincial Council on a proposal made by the Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake. Traders and residents of the area had made several representations in the past to the chief minister on the need of a weekly fair. However they cannot understand why the complex has been allowed to go into neglect within three years of opening it.
The Chairman of the Hasalaka Pradeshiya Sabha Wasantha Jayasundara who admitted that the project was completed three years ago, said that the weekly fair will be opened soon. However, he refused to comment on the reasons as to why it has remained closed for three years.
