NCCSL to hold seminar on ports, shipping
With the rapid increase of exports and imports into the country and expansion of shipping industry in Sri Lanka, the business community has to have a good knowledge about ports and shipping procedures and various other issues connected to the sector to perform well in a competitive world environment. In addition to the present organizations involved in export, import and shipping activities, there are many players getting into the industry every day. Above all, Sri Lanka has been one of the best strategic locations in the shipping industry. The industry has to be managed with advanced knowledge to grab every opportunity for Sir Lanka to become the naval hub in the South Asia.
With a view to fulfilling the above requirements, the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka will hold a seminar on February 16 at the NCCSL Auditorium which will be addressed by the most prominent speakers in the country who are in charge of relevant organizations and specialized units. The related issues will be addressed by Dr. Priyath B Wickrema, Chairman Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Dr. Neville Gunawardene, Director General of Customs, Capt. Nihal Keppitipola, Managing Director / CEO Sri Lanka Ports Authority, A W Seneviratne, Deputy Director, Merchant Shipping of Sri Lanka and Lakshman Perera, Chief Manager, Core/banking Systems, Bank of Ceylon.
They will discuss all the industry issues related to cargo handling, customs procedures, port procedures and ways of increasing efficiency of respective organizations. In addition automation of payment in shipping and logistic industry and how the banking sector facilitates such an exercise will also be discussed in detail. Advanced technologies available in ports and cargo handling will also be discussed.
