National Swimming Champions Trinity College, Kandy, stamped their class by winning both the Age Group and Novices Swimming Championships with a record number of points at the 7th Annual Age Group and Novices Swimming Championships for boys and girls organised by the Central Province Aquatic Sports Association (CEPASA) and sponsored by Nutella Hasel Nut Spread with Daily Mirror as the Media Sponsor and worked off at the Swimming Pool of the Peradeniya University.

Trinity College collected a massive 1,035 points which is a record for this meet and was also the first time that any team had passed the four figure mark. They dominated this meet to such an extent that they had a clear 744 point lead over the runner up Kingswood College.

Trinity College also won four out of the five age groups for boys. All this they performed in the absence of their star swimmer and national captain Heshan Unamboowe who is presently in Australia at training. In the Age Group championships the only event they missed was the boys over 16 which was won by Thisakhya Abeysinghe of Kingswood College.

Trinity College also won the Novices championship for boys by aggregating 252 points against 171 by the second placed Kingswood College.

Like Trinity College, Mahamaya Girls College also won the Age Group Championship for the seventh successive year. They totalled 654 points against 378 points obtained by the runner up Hillwood College who are showing signs of improvement and have closed the gap from what it was last year.

Mahamaya Girls won three of the five age group championships for girls and like Trinity they lost the over 16 title with Nelum Uduwawela (Gateway College), Hansanee Weeratunga (Peradeniya University) and Dilki Perera (Girls High School) sharing it and this put the organizers in a quandary as they had to look for three trophies instead of one. Justice of the Supreme Courts of Maldives Justice A. Muthasim Adnan was

the Chief Guest.
