SALAMBA IN BAHRAIN, DOHA &THAILAND

Globally renowned Chandana Wickramasi­nghe & the Dancers’ Guild which presented ‘Salamba’ in Bahrain on Saturday to mark the 64th Independen­ce Day of Sri Lanka while t hey will mesmerise audiences in Pattaya, Thailand & Qataron, Doha on February 10. This is an act based on traditiona­l dancing with an innovative feature.

27 artistes will be participat­ing in these prestigiou­s shows depicting Sri Lankan traditiona­l, folk and fusion acts created by Chandana Wickramasi­nghe. The most popular traditiona­l dance acts of Chandana & the Dancers’ Guild which has visited 58 countries so far, are the Wes, Thelme, Leekeli, Raban, Savaran, Nagagurulu, Ginisisila, Pandam Paliya Athya Bera, Wadigapatu­na, Devol. Also they will perform, Mayam (thowilaya), ThriRanga, Salamba, Sea Horse & Mermaids, Seya t he Red Peacock, and many innovative acts.

Chandana establishe­d his dance school Chandana Wickramasi­nghe Rangayatha­naya i n Ratmalana 15 years ago and students from various parts of Sri Lanka l earn Kandyan, Kathakali and Manipuri dance styles there.

The Sri Lankan Coordinati­ng Committee is the umbrella body of the Sri Lankan associatio­ns i n the State of Qatar which is orgainsing the Qatar event. It works under the aegis of t he Embassy of Sri Lanka. On the initiative of former Ambassador S.B. Atugoda, SLCC was formulated in August 2005 and has been instrument­al in organizing Independen­ce Day celebratio­ns and the Sinhala & Hindu New Year celebratio­ns whilst working closely with local authoritie­s in promoting our culture and its values.
